Mike King is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He grew up in Glendale and graduated from Ironwood High School in 1998 where he was a decorated athlete and scholar participating in wrestling, cross-country, and track. He came to appreciate physical therapists when he tore his meniscus and underwent a partial meniscectomy just weeks before the state wrestling tournament his senior year. Physical therapy helped him get back to the activities he loved!
Mike attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he joined the Racquetball Team helping them win two National Championships. He received his BS in Exercise Science in 2005. Before he finished his undergraduate degree, he paused his studies to spend two years in Bogota, Colombia immersing himself in the Spanish language and culture. He came to love the Hispanic people and speaks Spanish fluently. His Spanish-speaking clients appreciate his ability to communicate directly without the use of an intermediary translator.
Perhaps the best thing that came out of his undergraduate experience was meeting his wife Nichole. He cherishes her as his best friend and partner. They were married in 2004 and now have 4 children: 3 girls and 1 boy. Mike’s favorite job title is that of Dad! His kids describe him as fun and hardworking. He loves making memories with his family by hiking, camping, biking, boating, and playing games. His children admire his persistence and dedication to setting and achieving goals like competing in triathlons and marathons. They want to compete someday, just like Daddy!
In order to pursue a career in physical therapy, Mike attended Northern Arizona University where he received his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. After practicing in Utah for several years, he received his certificate as an Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS). He worked for MountainLand Rehab for 7 years as a therapist, high school physical rehabilitation teacher, clinic director, and clinical improvement specialist. Eventually, the Valley of the Sun would entice him back home. He moved his family from Salt Lake City to Phoenix in March of 2015 and began working for a local company as a physical therapist while he pursued his dream of opening his own clinic. The most fulfilling aspect of Mike’s profession is to see people recover from injury and pain so they can return to the activities that they love! Mike is happy to serve the areas of Peoria, Sun City, and Vistancia. We would love to welcome you, your family and friends, and patients to Desert Edge Physical Therapy.
